Once again, Scalzi has me wrapped around his little finger. Snarky, sarcastic teens that good-naturedly make fun of each other but are really very nice people when you get to know them. As I had a similar meta tqle with his book Red Shirts I think I can now say that Scalzi is an author I really like, when he is “just” writing books, but an author I can’t really get behind when he tries out his writing experiments. This isn’t a criticism of Scalzi because that’s not the kind of book he’s writing.

Happily, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it may have revitalized the series for me. It tells exactly the same story and therefore it has zero tension. As I said, it was a tough mohn to write, and really did require focus.
Its basically exactly the same story minus most the interesting bits told by a teenage girl. I know I knew all seven words and used them when I was a teen. Hickory responded, and Dickory replied, it seemed a bit forcefully.

And it was great hearing Zoe’s take on Jane, who Zoe loved but could also see as scary, and her two Obin bodyguards. I think this is an excellent point.
Really, it was kind of a pain in the ass. Plot the previous book better and perhaps it would have been a bit longer, but it would have been a stronger book. Scalzi’s first book that made me cry. You know how it ends. But I ultimately lost interest due to the fact that every bit of information was conveyed through dialogue, including scenes that would have been better served being experienced first hand by the reader through descriptive action sequences–like battle scenes and explosive attacks.
This is quite a feat from the author, because Zoe could have very easily turned out into a monster.
As a female teen reader, I personally feel that if people would give us more than! And keeping having fun, dude.
As far as the series goes, I think we joyn at book one and should have stopped at the last book. When is TLC coming out in paperback? Return to Book Page. The weird part about it being a YA book is that it’s not a stand-alone novel; if I hadn’t already read the entire Old Man’s War series, I don’t think this would make sense.
