Edit Did You Know? What do I care about two young Ivy Leaguers, rich like most Fitzgerald characters, obsessed with looking better, being the belle of the ball, and being with cute boys? The girl who plays Bernice is, well, either awful or incredibly good.

But fear not, we’re not looking at a heavy-handed Be Yourself lesson here! I only read it fitzgwrald it was required for my literature class. Most of the stories in the collection are very good and I highly recommend the book. But with Fitzgerald, everything was fun an A truly charming series of short stories. I’ve completely fallen in love with him and am going to bob my hair and become a flapper Right Now Other than the titular short story, I haig loved Magnetism and The Baby Party which are about the brittle personal life of a Hollywood screen actor and a Baby Party that ends in a fistfight, respectively.


We see the sexism of the time – the cattiness and manipulations of teens, the peer pressure – which are told through third person omniscient narrative. And it’s about college student bons is kind of a genius and ends up falling in love with a dancer.

What is most fascinating about this story is that at certain points in the story, Fitzgerald has the black characters as more fully realized that hernice main characters and he does this all to just switch the rug under you in the end. I do recommend it to anyone who enjoys this author or likes the classics.

I cannot help but think that his advice did contain some of the lesson that is visited on both cousins at the end, and presenting a story with such a clever conclusion, slightly devious and wholly appropriate for the character of Bernice was satisfying.
