Someone should make a book called “Poorly Designed Interactions” and explain what not to do, because all this book is telling me to do is: Outstanding read about the history of how some of the things we use daily were conceptualized and designed.

Having people tell the stories in their own words, from their perspective, creates an interesting presentation of the information; Moggridge fill in the gaps with his own insights at the start of chapters and between individuals, but the heart of this book comes from those individuals. This is the book for IxD thinkers, for people who want to figure out why interaction design even exists and why we are designing for interaction. He describes his career as having moggfidge phases, first as a designer with projects for clients in ten countries, second as a co-founder of IDEO where he developed design methods for desugning design teams, and third as a spokesperson for the value of design in everyday life, writing, presenting and teaching, supported by the historical depth and contemporary reach of the museum.

If that’s what you’re looking for, then it might be for you. It sort of peters out toward the end. Their stories chart the history of entrepreneurial design development for technology. In the former, you start with – essentially – envisioning and imagination.

Perhaps it gets better later, but I have better things to do with my time than keep reading, hoping that the 10th person who was involved in the invention of the mouse has something to actually teach the reader about designing interactions.

Will Wright creator of the Sims and Spore is always an interesting guy, but his big thing–“Let’s make software that works as open-ended toys, not closed games,” to paraphrase–is tangentially related to interaction design, at best.

Designing Interactions is illustrated with more than images, with color throughout. This book has so much good information it’s unbelievable. It opens up a view of the digital interaction design word from a human factors point of view. So, bbill knows how we got where we are via interaction design.
