As someone who’s not a scholar but with a keen interest in Greek and Roman mythology, I’m really glad I read it! However, his methodology is excellent, and luckily the juiciness of the subject matter tends to compensate for his occasional dullness.
This makes the book hard to read but for the truly interested the filtered information may give new insights missed when reading the original sources. Lists with This Book. I am not sure what the answer is, but I am sure that we cannot lump these things together into any single category, including necromancy — or magic, for that matter.

Excellent well-researched resource with a robust bibliography, and well-construed manner of presentation. Trivia About Greek and Roman N Readers meet the personnel–real or imagined–of ancient necromancy: Clearly the book is not for those who never read about the Greek deities or history and nrcromancy ready to use rituals. Lamps used by victims in haunted house stories do not imply that such stories originated in tales of ghosts raised through lynchomancy ; more probably they are simply used by these characters to see through the darkness in which most such stories are set otherwise, we would have to make Apuleius’ Psyche a necromancer as well.
