She was also extremely loyal. All of this is woven throughout the story of the romance and also provides some of the impetus for the actions of a few key individuals.

I liked him for all of that but then after the marriage when he continued his attempts to seduce Erienne, which is when I decided that he needed some redemption before becoming a worthwhile hero.

I want to reread this now! I loved how ms. I thought the gist of the romance lacked merit and appeal; that is, the handsome Christopher struggling to convince Erienne to love him instead of her husband, the ugly and malformed Lord Saxton. She even complained about his limp, for God’s sake, saying it made her cringe listening to the “step, scrape, step, scrape” sound of him coming into her room.

Not that that’s bad, necessarily – I know romances are generally guaranteed a HEA – but really, when the entire conflict because view spoiler [the thing with the Saxon family does not deserve the characterization of “conflict” hide spoiler ] hinges on the heroine being tempted between two men, it’s minorly frustrating when you figure out the big secret within the first fifty pages.
