Luckily The Running Man is fast paced and I got into the action from the start, something was always happening to keep me turning the pages and the short and snappy chapters helped too. The fact is that this novel inspired the movie of the same name. There is racism, homophobia, offensive language, and gruesome violence. The foreward is a very interesting addition to the story and was updated from the foreward included in the original Bachman Books which is where I first read this story.
Ben Richards is unemployed with a sick daughter and a wife that’s willing to turn tricks to buy the groceries. View all 5 comments. In that, I suppose this is truly a Bachman book. Do NOT read the author foreward. Many characters did not have the chance to develop, and there are just too many questions left unanswered with a lot of plot holes. Maybe I’ve read too many books, but it just seemed a bit too cliche.
Yet, even with that in mind, you This was thumping good fun!
The Running Man by Richard Bachman (2 star ratings)
THE RUNNING MAN le hopefuls, as our Ben Richards are all miserable, hungry and filled with despair knowing the only way left to survive in their dark world is to qualify for the game of death and outrun the hunters for as many days as possible to earn the much needed New Dollars for their families. And the fact is that I am one of the few that loved that movie.

In his introduction to The Bachman BooksKing states that adopting the nom fugitibo plume Bachman was also an attempt to make sense out of his career and try to answer the question of whether his success was due to talent or luck.
But, as with The Hunger Games, the horrific and paradoxically entertaining premise gets you right from the start. I was probably 12 at the time — likely too young to be reading this, but, hey, I did it anyway!
